For the past two terms, we have been doing languages and digitech. We always move with our home rooms. There are two different languages, espanol/spanish and te reo maori. Digitech is based around using different technology websites, for example Tynker & Tinkercad.

Completing This Year's Calendar Art

This week the kotuku team has been doing calendar art. We had the choices of either doing digital or drawing. For the digital we had to do an animal mosaic Here is an example of digital mosaic calendar art;

And for the drawing calendar art we did pastel art, inspired by Robin Mead or Shane Hansen. Here are some examples of the pastel calendar art;

Everyone completed theirs in a week and a half. Mr Fox taught us all how to do the mosaic calendar art. Miss McManus taught us how to do the Robin Mead or Shane Hansen pastel art. Miss Keys helped us out along the way.

Kotuku Tech - New Kotuku Tech Place

Hello! Heidi and Jorja will be telling you about tech in the kotuku team!
The kotuku team used to go to Linwood Tech every Tuesday for the past
year, until Linwood school closed for their rebuild. Now the Kotuku
Team go to Linwood Tech Center!!

We have been split up into five groups. The year 7 and 8’s are now in
their own little groups, instead of being mixed like they used to be! The
year 7’s were split across three groups, while the year 8’s split across
two groups. And now we have some new classes too! We now have:
Cooking, Digitech, Metal Work, Woodworks, and Electronics.

I think that the new classes are better, because the teachers are more
used to teaching primary kids, while at Linwood College their used to
teaching teenagers. Also there are less people in a class, so it's less
crowded and the teacher can easily help us!

Photos still to come :)

Inquiry Learning

W.A.L.T- We are learning about equality and that everyone is the same no matter how different
their backgrounds are.

For our first activity we got given a target and some stickers. The target consisted of three colours and
a circle in the middle. We had to put either our name or draw a picture of our self and write our closest
relatives, friends or close people on the stickers. We then stuck the stickers (there were 10) to the
target the closer the sticker the more close you feel that person is to you.

Here is an example of the target

Orange- Not so close
White- Pretty close
Red- Really close
Middle- You

Our next activity we did was Stereotype Pictionary. For this activity we had four people in a group one
person was the artist and the others had to guess what stereotype it was e.g. Draw a picture of a bad
driver. Everyone really enjoyed doing this activity and hope to do it again.

Here are some photos of the students playing it:

Kindness Animations

During the last week of term, we were focusing on kindness and how important it is. We watched the video below which had an expected ending relating to kindness:

We then worked with a buddy to discuss ideas and plan then create our own animations related to this important topic.

Watching our creations on the last day was a great way to end the term!
